Two men were seriously injured during an axe and a baseball bat attack on a main Merseyside road.
Emergency services was called to the junction of Marsh Lane and Stanley Road, in Bootle, at around 8.30pm on Friday, November 17. It followed reports a fight broke out between a group of men. Paramedics and police attended the scene and two men, aged 36 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and taken to hospital for serious head injuries.
It was reported one of the men was assaulted with a baseball bat and the other with an axe. One eyewitness at the scene told the ECHO he saw around "six fellas between 30 and 50 stamping on a man" before a "long thin object" was slammed on the man's head. He added an ambulance saw what was happening and stopped at the scene.

He described the attack as "brutal". This morning a number of cordons surrounded a block of flats situated on Stanley Road. One of the flats had multiple cordons surrounding it and a boarded up window.
At the back of the flats, a window was smashed, with glass all over the floor. Riot shields were also discarded on the pavement and a sheet of blue tarpaulin also covered one area of the scene. Forensic officers and detectives were seen making making enquiries nearby. Both men remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers were today carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said.
Chief Inspector David Currie said: “This was a serious assault that has left two men in hospital with serious head injuries. Although we have arrested two men, an investigation is ongoing as we seek to establish what has taken place and we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry including speaking to witnesses and examining CCTV footage.
“We understand that the local community will be concerned by this incident, we please be assured that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and I am appealing to anyone with information to please come forward.
“If you live in the area or were driving past at the time of the incident, please review your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything. If you did, please let us know as soon as possible."
