A woman was injured after a car crash between her vehicle and a police van.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Hornby Road and Rice Lace, close to Walton prison, shortly before 2pm after reports of the crash.
A female driver of a black Kia was involved in a collision with a British Transport Police van which caused significant damage.
The woman suffered minor injuries during the crash but no one else is believed to have been injured.
Pictures taken at the scene show damage to the front, left, side of the police van while an officer could be seen inspecting the Kia.
The black car involved in the crash appears to have crashed head on into railings around a set of traffic lights.
Road closures were put in place at the scene but were lifted shortly before 4pm.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 1.50pm today a report was received of a collision involving a BTP vehicle and a Kia near the junction of Rice Lane and Hornby Road.
The driver of the Kia, a woman, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
"The road was re-opened shortly after."
