Woman, 19, grabbed in street by man ‘who tried to drag her into bushes’

Police issued CCTV images of a man who could help with their enquiries after a young woman reported an attempted abduction.

The 19-year-old woman was walking along Winwick Road in Warrington at around 3.10am on Saturday, July 29 when she reported being grabbed from behind by an unknown man who attempted to drag her into the bushes near to Majestic Wine. The woman escaped unharmed and sought help from a passing taxi driver, police said today.

Enquiries in relation to the incident have been ongoing and as part of the investigation officers have released CCTV images of a man they are keen to speak to, who was wearing “distinctive” clothing. Cheshire Police are urging anyone with information about his identity to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Danielle Knox, of Warrington CID, said: “The victim in this case has been left extremely shaken as a result of her ordeal and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the person responsible.

“Patrols have been stepped up in the local area and as part of our ongoing investigation we are keen to speak to the man in the CCTV images who may hold vital information.
