STAFF and sixth form students from a Wirral school will be among hundreds taking part in a walk to mark World Cancer Day.

The group from Mosslands School in Wallasey are taking part in Liverpool's Glow Green Night Walk on Friday (February 7), in support of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

The 8km illuminated walk represents more than just a fundraising event for the Mosslands community – it is a 'deeply personal' mission for many participants.

Headteacher Mr. Whiteley, who lost both his first wife and mother to cancer, and whose daughter-in-law is currently battling the disease, will lead the school's contingent in this powerful demonstration of community spirit.

Head Boy Noah Evans, said: "Cancer has touched so many lives in our community.

"We're determined, as a team to make a difference by supporting Clatterbridge Cancer Charity's vital work."

The event has sparked an outpouring of personal stories from the school community; Mrs. Weston, who lost her mother to cancer when she was just eight years old, Miss Burke, whose father passed away in 2024 after battling brain tumours, and Mrs Sood who is grateful for Clatterbridge successfully treating her husband are among those walking to give back to the hospital that supported their loved ones.

Daniel one of the students said: "I am taking part in the Glow Green because of how Clatterbridge supported my mum while she was going through cancer treatment.

"She unfortunately passed away in October of 2023 due to complications with breast cancer.

"Clatterbridge was a massive help in supporting her while she was going through such a rough time.

"She received extraordinary care through her time in treatment and after surgeries, and I have Clatterbridge to thank for that".

Starting at the Museum of Liverpool, the night walk will see the city's iconic landmarks illuminated in green, including the Three Graces, Radio City Tower, and St Georges Hall.

A particularly moving moment will occur at the Metropolitan Cathedral, where hundreds of personalized lanterns will light up the steps, offering participants a chance for reflection.
