Feb 4, 2025

WIRRAL Council is consulting on plans for Selective Licensing in six areas.

The areas proposed are Birkenhead Central, Lower Tranmere, Tranmere North, Hamilton Square B, Tranmere Lairds, and Egremont South.

The council aims to improve property conditions and tenant protection in these areas, where private rented homes are more common.

Under the proposed scheme, landlords would need a license and must adhere to specific conditions regarding accommodation standards.

The scheme is set to cover all four areas from October 1, 2025, until September 30, 2030.

Residents can share their views online until 11.59pm on March 9.

Landlords can also discuss the proposals in person with the housing team at Birkenhead Town Hall on February 4 (9am to 1pm), February 11 (1pm to 4.30pm), and February 18 (1pm to 4.30pm).

The council hopes the licensing will enhance living conditions and ensure better treatment of tenants.
