MAJOR changes to Council Tax in Wirral are set to come in.
The changes, which will see penalties for homeowners who keep their properties empty double and a tax cut for the lowest earners, are set to be approved at a meeting of the council’s cabinet next week.
If a home is left empty for five years, the owner will have to pay a 200% surcharge on their council tax from April 2020.
On a Band A property, this would mean the owner paying £3,646.47 in council tax, instead of £1,215.49.
