An air ambulance has landed and police are currently surrounding houses in Runcorn after an incident.

The Uplands in Runcorn is cordoned off and multiple emergency services are at the scene.

A number of police cars can be seen, with witnesses reporting hearing "two popping noises" before officers arrived.

Large police presence still at the scene where a man was seriously injured

A large police presence is still at the scene where a man was seriously injured earlier today.

Several reports suggest the man had been shot after armed police were called to The Knoll in Runcorn shortly before 1..30pm.

Full circumstances have not been confirmed by Cheshire Police but we will keep you updated when we have more information.

Man seriously injured after 'shots fired' when armed police were called

Several gunshots were reportedly fired and a man was left seriously injured after armed police were called to a street.

A heavy police presence is at the Knoll, in Runcorn, this afternoon after officers were called to a "serious incident".

Cheshire Police said police were first called at about 1.20pm to the Runcorn address.

A man was rushed to hospital after he was seriously injured, police said.
