THE owner of a Wirral estate agents is doing his bit to support the fight against coronavirus – by donating thousands of surgical masks to local health workers, nursing homes and police officers.
Guy Platt-Higgins, owner of Wallasey-based Skellens Estate Agents, said it was an honour to help those working to stem the spread of Covid-19.
He said: “We find ourselves in an awful situation right now.
“This is a ‘once in a lifetime’ crisis and I feel we all have to pull together to mitigate the impact of it.
“We wanted to help in some way but there really is very little that we can offer.
“However, through our commercial contacts we have been able to source much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) which medical professionals are desperate for.
“Our urgent order for 2,500 World Health Organisationcompliant surgical masks has just arrived and we are now busy delivering them to local health centres, GP practices, nursing homes, Arrowe Park Hospital and the police.”
He continued: “These will go a small way towards limiting the amount of time we are in this crisis.
"If they save a life or at least stop the spread of the virus then at least we have helped as best we can.
"We have all read with great sorrow about the difficulties being faced in nursing homes which is why we decided to donate some of the masks to such homes.
"This terrible pandemic has touched the lives of everyone in some way or other – including house movers whose plans have been put on hold.
"We all must try to look after each other as best we can."
