Search for ‘amazing’ man, 22, ends in heartbreak as tributes paid

A 22-year-old man has been described as "caring" and "devoted" in tributes following the discovery of a body.

An appeal for information was made by police after Matthew Dutton was declared missing for three days.

He was last sighted on Belle Green Lane, in Ince, Wigan, at around 10pm on Sunday 23 August 2020.

On Tuesday, police released a picture of Mr Dutton, in the hope someone might recognise him.

But yesterday, August 26, police confirmed they had found a body.

In the wake of the tragic news, the young man's devastated family have led to tributes to Matthew – "a beloved brother, son, grandson, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend".

In a tribute online, Matthew's sister Lisa remembered the "caring" and "devoted" family man, reports the M.E.N.

She said: "The outpouring of love and support that the family have received has been overwhelming.

"Matthew Dutton was the most amazing brother, son, grandson, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend that anyone could have wanted.

"Everyone who knew him knew how much he could annoy and torment but I was privileged to know the kind caring side, who was completely devoted to his nephews and they absolutely adored him.

"Words cannot express how deeply heartbroken the whole family are, all our lives will forever be missing his shining smile and I'd give anything to have him here telling me a dodgy joke or raiding the cupboards."

Matthew's close friend Tara Darby added: "We are all devastated about Matt – he’s going to be missed by so many."

Matthew was a player for Wigan Wolves FC.

The club also paid tribute to him, saying Matthew was 'like a son and brother' to many on the team.

In a statement on Twitter, Wigan Wolves FC said: "It's one of the hardest things as any team member becomes like a son and brother.

"Thank you to everyone that shared the post to look for him. Wish it was better news.

"Condolences to his family and friends."
