Police update on toy doll found near body of baby on golf course

Police have said a toy doll found near the body of a baby boy on a Wirral golf course in not linked to the investigation.

Two dog walkers found a baby's body near the 16th green of the golf course of Brackenwood Golf Course at around 4.25pm on January 29.

He was unclothed, police said, and he had no discernible or immediately obvious injuries.

Police then carried out an extensive search of the area which led to them finding a toy baby doll which had some grey tape wrapped around it.

Police have now ruled out any link between the toy and the dead baby boy.

A spokesman for the force said to the ECHO : "At this stage we’ve been able to rule out that the baby doll that was found was in any way connected with the case."

Experts determined the baby was full-term but his age, or even if he was stillborn, remained unclear. A premature birth was ruled out, however.

It is possible that the body could have been at the scene for a weeks before it was found.

Community social media groups also rallied together, looking for ways to mark the boy's death. Some suggested hosting a memorial service or crowd funding for a funeral service.

Brackenwood Golf Club offered their clubhouse facilities to help police carry out their work at the scene after the body was found.

Flowers and teddy bears left at the scene where a baby boy was found dead at Brackenwood Golf Course, Bebington on the Wirral.

Detectives have been keen to speak to the boy's mother amid concern for her welfare.

Speaking last month Detective Chief Inspector Judith Blease said: “Investigations of this kind always take time and I would like to thank the people living nearby the golf course for their patience while we have carried out our enquiries.

“We are continuing to work closely with our partners to follow a number of potential lines of enquiry as we all know how important it is for us to find the baby’s mum and ensure she is safe and well and has the help and support that she needs.

“We know there has been a huge outpouring of sympathy from the local community and we have received offers of assistance and donations of clothing and blankets for the baby from local charities and bereavement groups. We are grateful but would ask that no further items are donated.

“I would continue to ask for anyone who has information to please come forward. It is vital that we are able to find the baby’s mum and reunite the baby with his family so that he can be put to rest.”
