Police hunt criminal who ‘looks like Jesus’ after Easter Weekend

The striking appearance of a 25-year-old man who is wanted on recall to prison attracted plenty of comment when his mugshot was posted by police.

Joseph McCarthy breached the conditions of his release on licence and officers from the police Fugitive Team have sought the public's help in tracing him.

He is described as white, 6ft 4in tall, of proportionate build, with dark brown hair and green eyes.

He has links to Kirkby and Ellesmere Port.

When the appeal was posted on the force's Facebook page, it attracted hundreds of comments because of McCarthy's flowing locks.

Some linked the fugitive to the Easter story of Jesus Christ, and others likening him to a member of Swedish pop favourites ABBA.

They included the following:

James Harry Kirner wrote: "I saw him emerging from a tomb on Easter Sunday after being dead for a few days. Hope this helps."

Rob Lawler posted: "Has 12 known associates. One associate has previously contacted the police which led to a successful arrest."

Danny Fildes posted: "Last seen performing on Eurovision a few years back."

Colin Murray said: "Has he time travelled from the 14th century?"

Terry Anderson posted: "Pretty sure he's living in America with a fella called Joe Exotic."

Carl Little wrote: "Carole Baskin might know of his whereabouts."

Mike Rabbette said: "Probably out doing battle re-enactments with his chain mail and broadsword."

David Allen said: "Six foot four, he will be hard to spot then. He may be nailed to a cross somewhere."
