A street in Bootle remains cordoned off tonight amid a heavy police presence after reports of a disturbance earlier in the day. Merseyside police were called to the Bedford Road area of Bootle at around 5.30pm today (Wednesday, 18 September).

It is understood that a number of males were involved in an 'altercation' at the junction of Miranda Road and Beatrice Street. A man in his 50s suffered suspected head injuries and has been taken to hospital where is in a serious condition.

It is believed a number of males left the area in a car. Police remain in Bootle this evening carrying out interviews and reviewing CCTV.

Reporter Emily Carubia on the scene

Emily says: "It is eerily quiet. I spoke to a man in a local shop and he said he heard there had been a fight and someone was badly injured."

"There are two police cars and a police van just left. There’s a large cordon in place stretching over Beatrice Street, Bedford Road and Miranda Road South."

"A person walking by told me: ‘There was absolute murder. I only live up there. It’s Bootle isn’t it?’"
