Piers Morgan shared a cryptic tweet just minutes before ITV confirmed the presenter was leaving Good Morning Britain.
Mr Morgan posted a photo of a grandfather clock that said "tick tock" on it.
The 55-year-old didn't comment anything other than the GIF as he posted the tweet at 6:13pm.
Just minutes later ITV released a statement saying that the presenter had left the programme.
ITV said: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
Earlier this evening Ofcom confirmed they had launched an investigation after more than 41,000 people complained about comments made by Piers Morgan on GMB.

Piers faced criticism from mental health charities after he questioned the validity of Meghan Markle's suicidal thoughts on Monday's show.
Mental health chairity Mind criticised Mr Morgan and said it was "disappointed and concerned" by his comments after Meghan said she had had suicidal thoughts.
It added: "It's vital that, when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health, they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy."
Today Piers stormed off GMB after getting into an argument with weatherman Alex Beresford.
Alex said: "I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle you’ve made that so clear a number of times on this programme.

"I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off.
"She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off?
"I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her."
But Piers, rising from his chair said: "I’m done with this. Sorry…..see you later, can’t do this."
He then proceeded to walk off set going backstage.
Susanna Reid then requested to take an ad-break while the situation cooled off.
Piers only returned to the show around 15 minutes later.
