A WIRRAL running club has shown its ongoing support for a charity helping the homeless and needy by donating a large number of training shoes. The Pensby Runners initiative aims to donate part-used but good quality training shoes to the Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead for onward distribution to anyone who may need them within the borough.
The public were also invited to participate in the scheme by donating via The Runners Hub, Pensby Road, Heswall.
The appeal came about from a request from the mission, who will arrange distribution of the trainers to anyone who may need them within the borough.
The club donated two large boxes of training shoes to the charity in May.
Pensby Runners chairman Roy Fisher told the Globe: “Our runners change their running shoes regularly but the old shoes still have plenty of wear left in them.
“Under this scheme, everyone’s a winner – we de-clutter our cupboards – less waste goes to landfill and the less fortunate benefit from a pair of nearly new, comfortable, shoes.
