NHS England has announced 778 further deaths from coronavirus in its hospitals, taking the overall English death toll to 15,607.
These statistics don't include additional deaths in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland which will be factored in shortly.
Of the 778 new deaths announced today 136 occurred on April 20, 236 occurred on April 19 and 121 occurred on April 18
The figures also show 242 of the deaths took place between April 1 and April 17, and the remaining 43 deaths occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on March 21.
Our region, the North West, had the highest number of deaths – 172 – ahead of the South East on 137 and London on 132.
Numbers had been rising by smaller amounts in recent days, suggesting UK deaths may be plateauing, but today's increase shows the pressure the NHS continues to be under.
