MEGAN Lear-Roach has a background in finance and Kate Satam is a specialist in visual styling – together they share a love of food.

Almost five years ago, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the dynamic duo launched a new business capitalising on the grazing trend that was sweeping across the US.

Here, in our latest Business of the Week feature, Kate tells us how Graze Upon Us was born and why the concept works so well for special occasions and corporate events.

Are you local to the area? Did you grow up here?

Meg and I have been best friends since school. We both attended Weatherhead High School and grew up in Wallasey together. Back then, never did we think we would be become business partners yet here we are five years in and we’re thriving!

Tell me a bit about your business. What do you do? What services do you provide?

We are creative event caterers. We cater for special occasions and weddings and specialise in corporate catering. What sets us apart from the rest is our unique food styling, creating beautiful displays for any event. This makes a great talking point for guests in a relaxed, social dining vibe.

Why did you decide to open your own business?

I have always wanted to start up something creative. Meg came across a new food trend – graze – which was popular over in the US and Australia. We noticed a gap in the market so we put our heads together and Graze Upon Us was born.

What’s your business background?

Meg’s background is in finance and accountancy and mine is in visual styling. We both have an equal love of food! We each have very different skills set however this is what makes our business so successful; we both contribute different skills and knowledge.

Were you open before/during/after the Covid-19 pandemic? How did this affect your business?

We began our business in the middle of the first lockdown of the pandemic. We may have been crazy however this was best decision we made. We created beautifully presented boxes full of cheese and charcuterie, delivering to those who couldn’t leave the house. They were moments of joy at such a terrible time. Our social media following grew and orders kept coming in throughout the national and local lockdowns. As places started to open and gatherings were once again allowed, we then adapted and started catering for larger numbers.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

Long gone are the days for a formal sit down meal at weddings or boring sausage butties at corporate events. We offer a chance for people to mingle among the beautifully displayed food. It is social dining at its best.

Why do loyal customers return to your business?

Over the years we have built quite an impressive corporate portfolio with clients such as Uni Lever, Stiebel Eltron, Wirral Waters, Oh Polly and Salons Direct to name a few. We believe it’s our service – we go above and beyond for our clients. We offer bespoke menus tailor made to the clients’ needs along with excellent customer service and delicious food. There is no reason not to come back.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your business?

2025 has already started off to a great start with plenty of corporate orders coming in. Our focus is to reach out to more companies offering brunch and lunch menus around the Wirral area.
