‘Mayhem’ as serious two vehicle crash shuts main road

A serious crash between two vehicles has shut a major road into Liverpool.

Witnesses told of 'mayhem' as several ambulances were called to Childwall Valley Road just after 2pm today.

One person at the scene said: "It looks like a serious accident has happened. There are so many ambulances, fire engines and an air ambulance. It just happened now."

Woman cut free after being trapped in car wreckage

This just in from a Merseyside Police spokesman:

"We received reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision on Childwall Valley Road.

"We were called just after 2pm.

"There was a female trapped in one of the vehicles, it appears the fire service have now cut her out."

The spokesman said the nature of any injuries was unclear but they are not believed at this stage to be fatal.
