A man need hospital treatment after being struck by a dog bowl after shoppers started brawling in a convenience store.

Police descended on the shop after the violence broke out in Waterloo on Monday.

Officers today urged anyone who witnessed the ugly scenes between two warring customers to come forward.

Police said the fight broke out after the shoppers started arguing and one required hospital treatment after he had a dog bowl, on sale in the shop, thrown at him during the scrap inside Mainstore Wines and Spirits in Great Georges Road.

The injured man and a teenage boy have both been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Police have arrested two males after reports of an assault at a shop in Waterloo yesterday, Monday 1 March.

"Shortly before 5pm, police were called to Great Georges Road following an altercation inside Mainstore Wines and Spirits.

" After arguing with a male inside the shop, it is reported that a man aged 31 had a dog bowl thrown at him. He was treated in hospital for a laceration to his elbow before being arrested on suspicion of affray."

The spokesperson added: "A 17-year-old male from Netherton was arrested on suspicion of Section 20 assault. He was taken into police custody and has been released under investigation.
