A man was reportedly seen in bushes near a primary school wearing a Halloween mask and holding a knife.
A Cheshire Constabulary newsletter for Halton Castle ward in Runcorn said the "suspicious male" was seen last Friday, October 23, close to St Mary's Church of England Primary School.
The bulletin did not specify what time the incident is reported to have occurred or provide further details of the figure.
Writing in the newsletter, Police Community Support Officer Duncan Brown said: "On the 23rd October there was a report of a suspicious male in the bushes near to St Mary's Primary School.
"The male was reported to be wearing a Halloween mask and carrying a knife.
"Officers attended but unfortunately could not locate the male.
"Patrols will be increased once the school reopens after Half Term."
It is understood no arrests have been made.
