A man was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver moments after getting into an argument on a night out in Southport town centre.
The man, aged 24, was hit by a silver Volkswagen Golf near the Scarisbrick Hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning and suffered cuts and concussion.
He was rushed to Aintree Hospital and was initially feared to have suffered serious injuries.
It is thought the victim had been out with friends when an argument broke out with an unknown man on West Street.
The stranger is then thought to have got into a silver VW Golf, which was involved in the collision.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.15am on Saturday and police closed Lord Street for several hours while investigations were carried out.
The driver left the scene without stopping and police have now asked for help to track them down.
