A large scale search was carried out by police last night after officers received reports of a man brandishing a shotgun.
Police were called to Ribblers Lane, Kirkby, at 8.15pm on Monday following reports of two men, with one reportedly carrying a shotgun.
The dog unit was called in as officers carried out a large scale search of the area but no weapon was recovered and the men were not located.
Video footage taken on nearby Moorgate Road shows at least six police cars parked up beside the road at around 9pm on July 20.
Merseyside Police said that the incident was now being treated as 'suspicious circumstances' and called on anyone with further information to come forward.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that officers were in the Kirkby area last night (Monday 20 July) following an unconfirmed firearm sighting.

"At around 8.15pm, officers were called to Ribblers Lane to an unconfirmed sighting of two males, one of whom was in possession of a shotgun.
"An extensive area search was carried out, with the assistance of our dogs unit, but no trace was found and the incident is being treated as suspicious circumstances pending any more information being received.
