Motorists travelling between Birkenhead and Liverpool are set to experience some major disruption starting this week with road works planned throughout the month.
Maintenance works on the Queensway (Birkenhead) Tunnel that began yesterday and continue tonight will close the tunnel for six days in total this month and one day in October.
The tunnel will be closed to all traffic from 8pm until 6.30am for what is described as "essential maintenance work".

While the Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be severely affected by the work, there are no currently planned closures on the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel which will remain open.
The Queensway ( Birkenhead ) Mersey Tunnel will be closed to all traffic on the following nights while essential maintenance work is undertaken on the following dates:
From 8pm on Wednesday 9 September to 6.30am Thursday 10 September.
From 8pm on Thursday 10 September to 6.30am Friday 11 September.
From 8pm on Monday 28 September to 6.30am Tuesday 29 September.
From 8pm on Tuesday 29 September to 6.30am Wednesday 30 September.
