Lorraine Kelly delivered a scathing assessment of the government's strategy to combat coronavirus today.

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid went live to Lorraine to find out what was coming up on her show.

Piers firstly congratulated Lorraine on her "grilling" of Home Secretary Priti Patel, saying "as your smiles got wider, your questions got more savage."

He then asked Lorraine : "What do you think of the government's general performance, do you feel they're on top of this?"

And she answered bluntly: "No, no I don't, but it's all we've got so, but no I don't actually.

"What I don't like is the ways things are getting fractured, it's like England's paddling it's own canoe and the rest of the country a bit more cautious and only time will tell who's right.

"It's worrying times, it's worrying times, we just have to do what we can."

Yesterday Lorraine interviewed Priti Patel about coronavirus and people entering the country, but not being put in quarantine.

She also asked her how she slept at night with all the criticism levelled at her.

The host asked: "I wonder how you are coping on a human level, because on your watch so many deaths.

"People saying it could be as high as 60,000, the Prime Minister was at death's door.

"You've come in for an awful lot of criticism, remember when you took the Downing Street briefing, you got a lot of criticism for that.

"You've been accused of bullying, you've been accused of all sorts of things.

"As a human being, how do you deal with that every day and get up and go and do your work and carry on?"

Priti replied: "Well first of all Lorraine, I'm a politician.

“My main priority is to serve my country and to serve the Prime Minister who’s put me in this role and to do the best job that I possibly can.

"I cannot let that criticism get to me. We’re in a national emergency and all of us, collectively, are doing our utmost to stop the spread of this virus."
