A gathering at a West Derby home was broken up by police this evening and a number of partygoers issued with fines.

Officers were called to Deyesbrook Lane, in West Derby, at around 7.20pm.

Once there officers found crowds of people gathered inside of a property – in a direct breach of current lockdown restrictions.

A spokesman for the force said: "There was a gathering with an excess number of people in attendance.

The fines are the second batch of penalties issued today after huge groups congregated in Sefton Park earlier this afternoon.

Photos from the scene showed lines of police officers trying to break up the crowds, as groups are not permitted to meet under current coronavirus regulations.

The force said 43 people were fined for breaching coronavirus rules. One person was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
