He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives investigating the murder believe the gunman was riding a black Sur Ron electric bike at the time of the shooting.
After Mr Boyle was shot, the bike is believed to have been ridden off along Lordens Road before crossing Princess Drive towards the general area of Woolfall Heath.
Merseyside Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward and a number of lines of enquiry are being pursued.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hurst said: “The enquiry is progressing well. We are continuing our detailed CCTV research and there continues to be a number of other active lines of enquiry that we are pursuing.
"We have a dedicated team of experienced detectives working tirelessly to identify all persons who may have had involvement in the murder, the planning of the attack and any persons who may have offered assistance or support to those involved.
“I would appeal to people to come forward to tell us – who was riding the bike and where did the bike go afterwards?
“Any bit of information, mobile, dashcam or doorbell footage could be vital in helping us find the person responsible and bring them to justice.
“The family has seen at first hand the devastation that guns bring. We need your help to get that gunman off our streets and behind bars where they belong.”
