FIREFIGHTERS have been battling a blaze tonight.
Crews were called to Borough Road, Wirral this evening to the building fire.
They found smoke billowing from a 20m x 30m single-storey site after being called at 8.37pm.
Fire crews gained entry to the building using an angle grinder and firefighters wearing breathing equipment tackled the fire with a main branch.
Nearby residents and businesses were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke from the fire.
Police and fire crews put cordons in place as the operation continued.
Shortly after 10pm crews were carrying out hot spotting and damping down operations.
Cordons remained in place on Borough Road.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course, said a Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson.
