Witnesses describe "traumatising" shooting

People in the area at the time of the shooting have described it as "traumatising" after seeing the woman injured in the street.

One man, who lives on North Hill Street, said that the woman was seen brandishing a knife and making threats before police arrived.

He told the ECHO: "I could see her in the street with the knife and she was shouting threats at people.

"She ran towards Shuga Shuga and two police cars pulled into the street on either side of her.

"When i went outside to see what was going on I heard a loud bang and then she was on the floor.

"More police kept turning up and they were all around her on the floor trying to help her.

"She was handcuffed while they gave her first aid and they were shouting for people to get back and turn their phones off.

"They were trying to calm her down and one officer was talking to her and stroking her arm, telling her she would be okay.

"She was put into the ambulance really quickly after that and police were asking people to go back into their homes.

Many neighbours stood outside their homes watching the huge police presence.

Some said because they live near a police station they didn’t think anything of the sirens.
