WIRRAL Coastguard team has issued safety advice after two people and a dog were stranded by incoming tide near Leasowe Lighthouse.

At 11.40am on Sunday (January 19) Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team and Hoylake Lifeboat Station's Hovercraft crew were alerted to the incident, following several 999 calls of people in distress.

By the the time Coastguard Rescue Officers arrived on scene, the two walkers and their canine friend had safely made it ashore.

As the beaches were busy, the hovercraft and coastguard teams carried out a check of the area for anyone else who potentially could get cut off.

"If you do get cut off raise the alarm by dialling and ask for the Coastguard. Shout for assistance if you have no phone. Do not try to enter the water as the gullies are fast flowing and not swimmable.
