THE countdown is on for a charity single launch event in memory of Birkenhead busker Peter Mickle.

Peter, known as 'Pete the Busker', was famous for entertaining shoppers on Church Street in Liverpool City Centre with his unique props and colourful suits.

Peter, aged 64, was found dead at his flat in Birkenhead on Monday, August 7, 2023. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

The event is taking place on Tuesday, November 21 at 7pm at Liverpool’s Cavern Club in tribute to the “legendary” busker.

Charity single Livin’ La Vida Liverpool, created by magazine owner Justin Hopper and Latin party band Los Amigos, will be launched in his honour during the night.

The night is also in aid of Brian Phillips, known as Mr Old Hall Street and a friend to Peter, and his work to help the Liverpool homeless.

Owner Justin Hopper said: “Liverpool is full of legendary characters, such as Pete The Busker and Mr. Old Hall Street. This hilarious single premiere will be a really fun night but it also aims to honour Pete, whilst raising funds for and celebrating the great work of Mr. Old Hall Street — who supplied Pete with his colourful outfits. Pete was once homeless, so to raise money for the homeless in his name is very special.

“Originally, the song was just a fun collaboration between La Vida Liverpool and Los Amigos, who are the best Latin party band around. They really are amazing and the song is incredible. Pete The Busker starred in the music video but he sadly passed a couple of months after filming — so that’s when we thought about doing something in his memory for the homeless.”

On the night there will be a premiere screening of the music video, a live set from Los Amigos. Guests can also expect talks from all involved in the project with special guest speakers, and a charity raffle.

Brian Phillips said: “On behalf of all my homeless brothers and sisters, I’d like to thank everyone for putting this night together. As everyone knows, I was once homeless but now I dedicate my life to helping the homeless of our city. Unfortunately, the situation is getting worse and there are more deaths happening. It will be even worse this winter so this fundraiser is coming at the right time.”

Tickets are £10 and are available via The Cavern Club’s website.
