Attempted murder charge after man stabbed in the head and neck

A man was charged with attempted murder after a 20-year-old was stabbed multiple times to the head and neck.

Emergency services were called to St Elmo Road, in Wallasey, shortly before 12pm on Wednesday after reports of a man found lying on the floor.

Witnesses said the man had injuries all over his body before the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Armed police were seen in the area and a short time later, Merseyside Police confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with the attack.

On Thursday evening, a spokesperson for the force told the ECHO that a 22-year-old man had been charged with attempted murder.

In a statement, they said: "A man has been charged this evening (Thursday 30 April 2020) with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Wallasey on Wednesday.

"We were called shortly after 11.45am to reports a 20-year-old man had sustained stab wounds to the head, leg and back in an assault on St Elmo Road.

"He remains in hospital receiving treatment where his condition is described as serious but stable.

"Connor Young, 22, of Beckwith Street, Birkenhead was arrested a short time later and has been charged with attempted murder."

A police cordon was erected on three streets connected to the incident.

Officers investigating the attack closed off St Elmo Road, King Street and Charlotte Road.

Connor Young was remanded in custody and will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Friday, May 1.
