THE inquest into the death of a 38-year-old woman has been suspended again while a manslaughter investigation continues.
Jennifer Smith was found deceased at her home on Birch Grove in Ellesmere Port on June 1, 2023.
A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of unlawful act manslaughter.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “On Thursday, June 1, 2023, police were called to concerns for the welfare of a woman at an address on Birch Grove, Ellesmere Port.
“Officers attended the scene, and sadly 38-year-old Jennifer Smith was found deceased at the property.
“Following her death, an investigation was launched, and a 47-year-old man has since been arrested in relation to the incident.
“The man, who is from the Chester area, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful act manslaughter.
“He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
“The investigation remains ongoing and further updates will be provided when available.”
The inquest into Ms Smith’s death was opened at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington but has been suspended multiple times due to the investigation.
The inquest was heard once again on Wednesday and was adjourned to be heard on January 19, 2026.
