AN ELLESMERE Port man has denied burglary and criminal damage after an incident at a convenience store.

Liam Gallagher, 35 and of Lancaster Gardens, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, February 21.

Valeriya Tonkinson, prosecuting, said that Gallagher had entered O’Hara convenience store on Wednesday, January 29, and had trespassed behind the counter of the store attempting to steal a bottle of vodka to the value of £5.98.

Gallagher is then alleged to have knocked over and smashed a display full of bottles while attempting to escape the store.

Gallagher denied both the attempted burglary with intent to steal and the criminal damage charge.

The defence said that Gallagher had ‘no intention to steal an item’ when he ran behind the counter of the shop and that he ‘did not know that the area was restricted from members of the public’.

The court also heard that Gallagher maintains that he was ‘pushed’ into the display and denies the criminal damage charge.

Gallagher was placed on conditional bail, ordering him not to revisit the store, and will return to Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 17.
