THE NHS has issued a plea for people across Cheshire and Merseyside to seek help if they are struggling with their mental health.

They say January is a "challenging time" that can leave people feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

The NHS has said that if someone's mental health is suffering, there are a number of steps they can take to help.

This includes getting outside, being physically active, and connecting with others.

The NHS has also asked people to reach out for help if they are struggling, and has said that the NHS Talking Therapies service is here to help.

The service offers a range of free, confidential treatments known as talking therapies.

Talking therapies offer psychological interventions to support people's differing emotional needs, including generalised anxiety, panic, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Professor Rowan Pritchard Jones, Medical Director for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, said: "January can be a difficult time for many.

"Feelings of low mood, loneliness, and anxiety over the festive period can persist into the new year and be worsened by financial worries, poor weather, and reduced daylight hours.

"We’re urging everyone to take active steps to look after their mental health, and to come forward for professional help if you’re struggling.

"People often say it’s a huge relief to talk to someone about what they are going through, so please do reach out.

"It’s also important to maintain healthy habits during winter.

"Regular exercise, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family are great ways to boost your mood during the colder months."

Access to Talking Therapies can be made via a GP or self-referral online.

If you or someone you know is in a mental health crisis, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option 2.

The service is available 24/7, and you'll speak to a mental health professional who can help you find the right support.

If there is an immediate risk to life, ring 999 or go to A&E.
