It took a long time in coming but the end of May and the start of June heralded some much needed sunshine for the region.

And people headed towards the Pier Head, Liverpool ONE and Crosby beach – among other places – to take full advantage.

Liverpool was hotter than Ibiza today as the heatwave continued, with the UK enjoying the hottest day of the year for the third consecutive day.

Tuesday (June 1) and bank holiday Monday (May 31) also both saw the hottest temperatures of the year so far, with highs of 26C recorded in some parts of the country.

Yesterday also marked the first day of summer according to the meteorological calendar, and the sun well and truly came out to confirm this.

However, the clear skies are soon expected to become a lot murkier.
